My son / daughter is having trouble getting along with his/her teacher, what do I do?
The first step should be to talk to the teacher. This can be done by calling the teacher or communicating by e-mail. Usually you will have to leave a message at school and the teacher will call you back. E-mail addresses are posted on the High School website. If this doesn’t solve the problem, the next step would be to set up a meeting with the teacher and perhaps the Housemaster (assistant Principal). The final step would be to set up a meeting with the Principal and the teacher to resolve the situation. Other parents can be a support group in this process. Ask that proposed solutions be documented in writing and don’t be afraid to follow up!
What is the best way to communicate with a teacher?
E-mail seems to work best with simple questions or comments. If you e-mail and ask for a reply and don’t get a response in a few days, follow up with a phone call. If you call, usually you will leave a message and ask the teacher to call you back. If this doesn’t work, call the Housemaster and ask explain the problem. If you aren’t sure who to talk to, the main office staff can tell you who the Housemaster is for your child. If all this fails, leave a message for the Principal and ask for a response.
I simply cannot get my child to do homework and I don’t get notice of this until mid-terms! Help!
Don’t be afraid to e-mail or call teachers and let them know that you want to know if your child isn’t doing their work. Teachers should let you know if they are having trouble getting kids to do homework but with a lot of children in each class, this is sometimes hard. E-mail generally works well. If you are having trouble, you can request a weekly update where the teachers sign off each week and send this note home showing that your child is up-to-date with their work. It’s not too late if you are surprised by a mid-term report. Some teachers will allow latitude in making up work if they realize that parents are willing to work with them in a good-faith effort to get students back on track.

Where do I drop off and pick up my son / daughter?
Students should be dropped off and picked up on the North (left) side of RHS near the Vo-Ag building, near the student parking lot. Mini school buses also pick up along the right side of that parking lot, so avoid parking there after school. After normal pick-up times, most students are picked up at the “circle” near the main entrance of the school, where the covered pavilion is located.
I want to use school facilities for an outside group, what do I do?
The School Board has a detailed policy regarding use of school facilities. You must get the permission of the Principal and check the availability. Also, you must fill out a School Use form (available in school offices or at the main administration building). If the use is during a time when school buildings are normally open, there may not be a rental charge or custodial charge. Permission of the Board of Education may be required. Contact the school’s principal well in advance of any planned activity!
What is the school policy on students being interviewed by a police officer?
Depending on the situation, parents should be contacted prior to a student being interviewed by a police officer and the interview should be done with a parent or school staff member present.

Can a coach schedule Sunday practices?
Generally, Sunday practices are not allowed. If a Sunday practice is held, there should be no Saturday practice except in very unusual circumstances. This also applies to “optional” Sunday practices scheduled by a coach. We’d like to hear about excessive or Sunday practices.
How do a find more information out about a team?
Talk to the Athletic Director or team’s Coach. You may also talk to a booster club President, if the team has a booster club (see the listing on our web site). If your child knows some members of the team, try calling the parents for an insight to that team.
